Hassan Todd was found guilty in the shooting death Elijah Roberts, which occurred on Sept. 22, 2018 on Avon Ave. in Newark, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said. A second victim was shot but survived the incident.

Todd was previously convicted in 2019 and sentenced to 65 years in prison, but his conviction was reversed in 2022 over improper witness testimony and a new trial was ordered.

Todd, who has four prior felony convictions for robbery, aggravated assault, drug offenses and resisting arrest, has maintained his innocence.

He faces life in prison when he is sentenced in August.
